The Delmarva Education Foundation
(DEF) is located in Salisbury, Maryland on the Lower
Delmarva Peninsula (between the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean).
Our office
is on the main floor of the Wicomico Public Library, thanks to their
generous donation of space and resources. Our partnership with the Library
continues to be mutually beneficial and supportive.
DEF serves
the broad trading area around Salisbury which includes the seven (7)
counties of the Lower Delmarva Peninsula:
Sussex County in Delaware; Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset, and Worcester
counties in Maryland; Accomack and Northampton counties in Virginia.
These counties have similar issues and concerns, relating
more to each other than their respective state capital cities, which
are urban rather than rural in nature. Therefore we choose to do research
in and serve this area as one region, across state lines. We believe
this presents a more useful picture when conducting research and analysis,
while providing more effective services to our public.
The predominantly rural Salisbury
economic region of the Lower Delmarva Peninsula supports the following
industries: Poultry, Agriculture, Seafood, Timber, and Tourism. It is
due to our region’s mostly rural attributes that we would like
to further pursue the establishment of a Center for Rural Education
Research and Policy . |
